Dorm Life, Events, & Culture

The Feast

An iconic event put on by our founder Jimmy Dunne and his Notre Dame roommates. Thanks to his generosity, we experience Basilica Mass, a mixer, and an incredible multi-course catered meal. It is a suit and tie affair seated by section, and the Dunne men listen to words of inspiration from the founders of Dunne and a guest speaker (past speakers have included Marcus Freeman and Pete Bevacqua) on having a successful college career.

In our first year of existence as a dorm, Jimmy Dunne decided to throw a feast for the newly minted men of Dunne. Since then, the Feast has become a yearly occasion now accompanied by a full week of fun events, starting with the Feast and leading up to the Aspen in the 80’s Ski Event, with tons of other events planned throughout the week.

Dunne Funne Runne

Dunne's signature fall event, which typically takes place within the first few weeks of the school year. The Funne Runne is a 3 person relay (not much running) that is focused on the celebration before and after, with a carnival style atmosphere. Enjoy the summer weather with great food and games, watch hall staff compete in a watermelon eating contest, and cap off the event by racing through the relay course. All ND students are encouraged to attend, and all proceeds benefit a charity that focuses on education needs for under resourced people.

Dunnedance Film Festival

Referencing the famous Sundance Film Festival, this event is sure to deliver plenty of laughs. In the weeks and months leading up to showtime, our sentinels write, film, and edit short movies, and on the night of the event, Dunne hosts a mocktail hour before a group walkover to DPAC (DeBartolo Performing Arts Center) to watch the films on the big screen. At DPAC, the red carpet is rolled out for the movie stars and directors throughout Dunne, and after the screening, awards are given to the best films and actors.

The Dunnedies

A play on the Dunder Mifflin awards from the TV show The Office where the men of Dunne give and receive awards (some serious, some not) that highlight their achievements throughout the year. Food and good roasts are provided.

Dunne Hall Retreat

The largest and longest retreat on campus attended each year by a majority of the students in Dunne and funded by Pizza Dunne Right and our young Dunne Alumni. This is an opportunity for spiritual and personal growth as well as a great opportunity to get to know new faces in Dunne.

Aspen in The 80s

Following Feast Week, Dunne takes its community to the slopes. We go up to Swiss Valley Michigan where we ski (and snowboard) until dark.

Pull-Ups for Patriots

Dunnemen stay on Library Lawn from 11am to Midnight while getting people to do pull-ups, listening to music, playing lawn games, gathering donations, and selling shirts in order to support wounded veterans and thier families through the Joshua Chamberlain Society.

Interhall Sports

Interhall Sports are a great opportunity to play your favorite sports on a team of Sentinels competing against other dorms. They are the most competitive arena open to the general public (below club and University sports), and championship games are often played in each sports' respective stadium. Our teams are open to everyone, though some of the more popular sports will have tryouts and multiple teams. In our short history, Dunne has dominated the interhall sports scene, claiming championship titles in many disciplines.

Pizza with Fr. Kevin

After every Tuesday night mass, we go up to the fourth floor to have pizza with Fr. Kevin where we talk about a whole host of issues and college troubles—both lighthearted and serious. After the discussion, a group of sentinels known as God's Gritty Grotto Gang walk to the Grotto together for prayer and reflection.

Pizza Dunne Right (PDR)

The best dorm restaurant on campus, serving pizza from 9PM to midnight Sun-Thurs. All proceeds are put towards funding our retreat.

Section Sports

Section sports provide a fun opportunity for all to compete for section glory and bragging rights over the rest of the dorm. Sports usually include at least football and basketball. The football champions from last year, 2W, have won the honor of being shown in the picture here.

Hall Gov

Come to the main lounge every Tuesday at 9:30PM for a good laugh and to find out what's happening in Dunne and around campus while earning some points towards Hall of the Year.
